Brian’s Story

In March of 2014, at the age of thirty-nine, Brian heard the worst news that would forever change his life. He had lung cancer. The news was devastating and surprising to all. He was in good health and did not smoke.

The oldest of three children, Brian grew up on the southside in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood. His mother is a nurse, and his father is a retired Chicago policeman. Brian attended St. John Fisher Grammar School and Marist High School. Raised as a hard worker, Brian put himself through college at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then attended John Marshall law school. After graduating law school, he worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney and taught college courses.

Brian married the love of his life, Liz (Chomicz), who is also from Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood. Liz was with him through every step of his heart wrenching battle and describes Brian as the greatest person she has ever known. Brian and Liz settled in Brookfield and have two daughters. Brian adored his girls and no matter how sick he felt, he always made time to joke and play with them.

After Brian’s diagnosis, he continuously underwent aggressive treatments, determined to fight this terrible disease and keep moving forward. The road was not easy. While Brian loved his life and did everything he could to fight, his brave battle came to an end on September 7, 2014, less than six months after his diagnosis.
